Happy Monday! My mom is visiting and last night we made homemade ice cream with the kids! Here's our 20 minute recipe:
2 TBL sugar
1 cup half & half (or light cream)
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup rock salt
ice (preferably crushed!)
gallon-sized Ziploc bag
quart-sized Ziploc bag
For chocolate, add a couple Tbsp cocoa powder. We also tried blueberries!
Mix the half&half, sugar and vanilla (and cocoa if making chocolate) and put into smaller ziploc.
Fill gallon ziploc 1/2 full of ice and add rock salt.
Put your small ziploc with the cream mixture (closed tightly!) into the larger ziploc with the ice. Put on some gloves, and jostle ice around for 10min or so until the cream in the baggie thickens up!
Once you get the right consistency, take out the small ziploc and rinse (to remove all the salt), then empty into a bowl and enjoy!
You can add toppings if you'd like, but be quick bc it melts fast! I think it'd be a really great milkshake.
